While studying percussion at the University of North Texas, Andy joined the inaugural steel band there. He quickly became fascinated by the Steel Pan and began pursuing opportunities to further his musical expression on the instrument. While at North Texas Andy directed the Steel Band and began composing and arranging music for various Steel drum ensembles. After graduating with his Masters in Percussion Performance, Andy continued exploring the sonic possibilities of the Pan through music education and performance.
Andy's performance experience is extensive and includes gigs with Andy Narell, Kelly McGuire, Mike Bogle and others. He co-founded several DFW groups including Tropical Jazz Project, Elephants Jerold, Art Gecko, and Caribbean Connection. He has performed at the Percussive Arts Society International Convention and with several professional organizations including the Utah Symphony, Dallas Wind Symphony, Richardson Symphony, Irving Symphony, Lake Lewisville Symphony, North Texas Oratorio Society, Dallas Theater Center, Theatre Three, and the Dallas Repertory Theater.
